The bass are biting really well at El Cuchillo but you have to catch a bunch of fish to get a good one. We are catching an eight pounder at least about every day. We are using worms and other soft plastics. I have been experimenting with a shakey head rig as well and have caught them up to ten pounds. This is a lot of fun on light tackle.

El Cuchillo seems to really be coming back from a couple of tougher years.

I just returned to Oklahoma from two months of bass fishing at Lake El Cuchillo, Mexico. We caught quite a few good ones, with 11 pounds, 12 oz. being the largest for this season. The best baits for us were soft plastics, rattletraps and spinnerbaits.

On the good days we had over one hundred fish per boat. As always, any of these trips present a chance for that one great "fish of a lifetime".

We stay at the Don Carlos Lodge. This is a great place and the food has even improved from the earlier days. We just cannot say enough about how well we are treated there.

Chuy has spots open for April if anyone is interested in going on a guide trip with him. Tony and I will be going back in December.

I just got back from Lake el Cuchillo in Mexico. We've been staying at the Hotel Hacienda Don Carlos. The weather was great and so was the fishing.

I talked to some friends that had arrived there the day I left to come home for two weeks for the tackle shows. When I returned back there they said they had enjoyed their best trip ever, and they have been going for six years. They said this year was their best year yet, with good quality fish including a lot of five and six pound fish and up to eleven pounders. They had a great two week trip.

We had a good trip also. We had some double digit fish on the line but we weren't able to get them in. Still, we had a lot of good fish and a lot of fun.

The lake did really good this year, with some great weather. We will be heading back again for another winter season in December.
